The short answer: on 20 October 2026 Google added a business hub to the Gemini app. It connects to your Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Google Workspace, plus Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and Xero. It can make on-brand marketing images and turn spreadsheets and receipts into charts. Google says it is rolling out globally to all Gemini app users. Google didn't say what it costs on which plans, or how business data from those connections is handled. Before connecting customer or financial data, read the Gemini Apps privacy notice. It says human reviewers read some chats and asks you not to enter confidential information.

For a small business already using Google, this is the most direct way yet to put an AI assistant on top of your own data. It's also easy to connect more than you meant to.

Gemini is Google's AI assistant app. The business hub is a new landing page inside it for small business owners, covering branding, finances and customer insights from one place.

What does the Gemini business hub do?

Google's announcement (20 October 2026, Vishnu Sivaji, Senior Director, Gemini App) describes three jobs:

FeatureWhat Google says it doesA Kamloops example
Connected appsLinks Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Workspace, plus Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and XeroAsk about review trends on your profile alongside last month's ad spend
Brand visualsUpload your website, brand kit, fonts or colours once; Gemini, with the Nano Banana 2.1 image model, "retains this visual style" for later imagesA fall-promotion graphic in your colours without opening a design tool
Financial insightsTurns spreadsheets, receipts and purchase records into graphics and interactive modelsA chart of supplier costs by month from a folder of receipts

Google says the business landing page, marketing and finance skills and connected apps are "beginning to roll out in the coming days globally for all Gemini app users". "In the coming days" means it may not be in your app yet, so check before planning around it.

What did Google not say?

Three things a business owner would want to know are missing from the announcement:

Until Google fills those gaps, treat the hub as a capable assistant on a personal account, not as business software with a business contract.

What happens to your data?

The Gemini Apps privacy notice, last updated 13 October 2026, answers most of it. Four lines matter for a business:

  1. People read some chats. "Human reviewers (including trained reviewers from our service providers) review some of the data we collect." Google asks you not to enter "confidential information that you wouldn't want a reviewer to see or Google to use to improve our services".
  2. Connected apps feed the same pool. "Gemini saves and uses info from Connected Apps according to this notice, including to provide and improve Gemini Apps."
  3. Deleting isn't always deleting. Activity auto-deletes after 18 months by default, and you can choose 3 months, 36 months or never. But chats chosen for human review "are retained for up to three years" even after you delete your activity.
  4. Work accounts are different. If you use a work or school Google account, "your use of Gemini Apps may be subject to different data handling terms."

The notice also warns that Gemini "can make mistakes, like making purchases or sharing your data with third parties unexpectedly". That's worth remembering before you connect anything that can spend money.

Does BC privacy law matter here?

Yes, once customer information is involved. BC's Personal Information Protection Act makes a business responsible for the personal information it controls, including when a vendor holds it. Customer names in your bookkeeping, emails in Workspace, and reviewers' details all count. Uploading them to a consumer AI account that a reviewer might read is the kind of use you should be able to justify. The same rules are covered in what not to put into AI tools under BC privacy law.

How to set it up safely

  1. Decide which account. If you have Google Workspace for the business, check its Gemini settings and terms before using a personal Gmail account. Work accounts can carry different data terms.
  2. Turn the improvement setting off if you don't want chats used. In Gemini Apps Activity you can control whether your data is used to improve Google's AI, and set auto-delete to 3 months.
  3. Connect the low-risk apps first. Brand visuals and your public Business Profile carry little private data. Hold back bookkeeping and customer email until you know what the connection can do.
  4. Keep customer details out of prompts. Ask "which month had the most refunds?" rather than pasting in a customer list.
  5. Check anything it produces before it goes out. That includes images with prices, figures in a chart, and replies to reviews. The privacy notice itself says Gemini makes mistakes.

Gemini or Meta AI?

They overlap more than either company admits. Meta's AI tools for small business read your Facebook, Instagram and ad accounts. Gemini reads your Google profile, ads, Workspace and a long list of third-party apps. Pick the one that matches where your business data already lives. And if you're still deciding whether you need either, which AI tools a small business actually needs is a better place to start.

Common questions

What is the Gemini business hub?

It is a landing page for small business owners inside Google's Gemini app, announced on 20 October 2026. It connects to Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Google Workspace, plus Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and Xero. It creates on-brand images and turns spreadsheets and receipts into charts.

Is the Gemini business hub free?

Google hasn't said. Its 20 October 2026 announcement says the features are rolling out globally to all Gemini app users but gives no pricing, plan requirements or usage limits. Check what your own account offers before relying on it.

Does Google read my Gemini chats?

Some of them. Google's Gemini Apps privacy notice says human reviewers, including reviewers from service providers, read some data to improve its services. It asks users not to enter confidential information. Chats chosen for review are kept for up to three years even after you delete your activity.

Can I connect my Google Business Profile to Gemini?

Yes. Google Business Profile is one of the connected Google tools in the Gemini business hub, alongside Google Ads and Google Workspace. Google hasn't detailed what each connection can read or change, so start with read-only questions and review anything Gemini drafts before it is published.

The honest summary

The Gemini business hub is useful for the work small business owners never get to: brand graphics, a quick look at the numbers, a summary of what reviews are saying. It's also a consumer AI app with human review and long retention, and Google hasn't yet said how business data from these connections is treated. Use it for public and low-risk material first, keep customer details out, and set the activity controls before you connect your books.

If you'd rather build automation around your own systems, with your own data rules, that's what AI automation for Kamloops businesses covers.
